A VAT invoice is an invoice that carries the details VAT rules require, including the supplier’s VAT registration number and the VAT shown separately. Only VAT-registered businesses can issue one, and for a VAT-registered customer it’s the main evidence needed to reclaim the VAT it has paid.
At Wigwam
Every storage payment comes with an invoice. We email it to you 5 to 7 days before the payment is due, with the full details of the charge, so you or your bookkeeper have time to check it before the money leaves. Storage is charged every four weeks from the date it starts, so that’s 13 invoices a year rather than 12.
Nothing is added at checkout: the total in your quote is what you pay, and our prices page explains what storage costs. If your business is VAT-registered and you’d like to reclaim the VAT on your storage, call us on 0800 2545585 before you book and we’ll confirm exactly what your invoice will show. If you paid for storage before your business started trading, see whether you can claim those storage costs. Please keep the email address on your account up to date, so invoices go straight to whoever looks after your accounts.
What to check
If you plan to reclaim VAT, it’s worth asking us:
- whether your invoice will show our VAT number and the VAT charged;
- whether it can be made out in your business’s name;
- how contents cover appears alongside the storage charge.
Keep every invoice you receive, as HMRC treats them as the primary evidence for recovering VAT. If you’re a private customer, or a business that isn’t VAT-registered, you can’t reclaim VAT, so the total in your quote is your real cost.
