Pro-rata billing

Pro-rata billing means charging for part of a billing period in proportion to the time used. If your stay ends partway through a period you’ve paid for, you’re charged, or refunded, only for the days that fall inside it.

At Wigwam

You pay for storage four weeks at a time, in advance (our prices page explains what storage costs), so the pro-rata part comes at the end, as a refund. When you leave, we refund any days you’ve paid for after your notice ends, once your unit is empty and we’ve checked it. You only ever pay up to the end of your notice.

The same idea applies if you book online or by phone and change your mind within 14 days of our confirmation: you only pay for the storage you’ve actually had. For example, if your first four weeks cost £140 and you cancel after one week, you’d pay around £35 and get around £105 back.

What it means in practice

Your refund counts from the end of your notice period, not from the day you empty the unit. Clearing out early doesn’t bring the end date forward, but giving notice early does. So as soon as you know your leaving date, email us your notice, normally 14 days, and then move out at your own pace within it.

If the exact refund matters to your plans, call us on 0800 2545585 and we can work it out for your dates before you give notice.
