An unstaffed site (also called an unmanned site) is a storage facility where no member of staff is there day to day. Customers let themselves in with an electronic entry system during access hours, and help comes by phone or from a team based elsewhere. Security doesn’t depend on anyone being present: it comes from access control, alarms and cameras.
At Wigwam
You never need anyone on site to reach your things. Smart entry (or your own PIN at Chipping Norton) lets you in, normally from 6am to 10pm, seven days a week, and your belongings are protected whether or not anyone is in the office:
- CCTV is monitored around the clock by a professional monitoring company, behind a secure perimeter;
- access control systems protect the external doors;
- every unit has its own alarm and lock, and if your alarm goes off while you’re not on site, our security team investigates.
Our team is on hand Monday to Saturday, by phone and email. Office hours vary from site to site; at Chipping Norton, for example, reception is open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm. Our Bath, Burton-on-Trent, Chipping Norton and Dorking sites also sell boxes and packaging in store during office hours.
Planning your visit
Self storage means you do the loading and unloading yourself, at your own pace, so it’s worth bringing a helper on moving day. Free trolleys are there at every site, you can park free while you unload, and every site has a toilet you’re welcome to use. If you’d like help with the heavy lifting, we can recommend local removals and man-and-van firms. Our sites don’t take in deliveries, so someone from your side needs to be there when a courier or removals crew arrives.
