An access log is the electronic record a storage site’s entry system keeps each time a door, gate or unit is opened: the date and time, and whose phone, fob or code was used. Because it records the access used rather than the face behind it, it shows whose access opened a door, not who was holding the phone.

At Wigwam

Our security systems record visits to keep everyone’s belongings safe. The external doors have access control, and every unit has its own alarm, which sets and unsets as you lock and unlock with smart entry (or with your PIN at Chipping Norton). At sites including Reading, Cheltenham and Lincoln, our systems also log each time a unit is opened, which is especially useful for businesses that need to keep track of who went in and when.

The record is seen by our team and, in the limited cases our privacy notice sets out, by people you’ve chosen to deal with your account or by the police if they’re investigating a crime. You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and in most cases there’s no fee.

Access log and CCTV

The two work together. The access log shows whose access opened a door or unit and when, and our CCTV, monitored around the clock by a professional monitoring company, shows what happened. Because the log follows the access rather than the person, the simplest way to keep it meaningful is to give anyone who visits for you their own access through smart entry, as an authorised user, rather than lending them your phone.

If your business plans to rely on the log for staff visits, call us on 0800 2545585 and we’ll tell you what your site’s log shows before you book.
