A deposit is a sum paid at the start of an agreement and held as security against anything owed at the end. When the agreement ends, it’s refunded, less any proper deductions. It doesn’t pay for any storage time.

At Wigwam

We’re not currently taking deposits. Nothing is held back against your unit, so there’s nothing to claim back when you leave.

When you book, you pay two things: your first four weeks’ storage, after any introductory offer at your site, and contents cover if you take ours rather than arranging your own insurance. Your quote shows both amounts before you pay, and the total in your quote is what you pay. Our prices page explains what storage costs. Because there’s no deposit, an introductory offer brings down the whole of what you pay on day one.

If you joined us some time ago and paid a deposit then, it’s refunded within 21 days of your agreement ending, less anything owed; just ask us if you’re not sure what you paid.

Deposit or payment in advance?

The two are easily mixed up. Your first four weeks are payment in advance: they buy storage time. A deposit buys no time at all; it simply waits to be returned. With no deposit, the money that can come back to you when you leave is any storage you’ve paid for but not used. Give us notice, normally 14 days, clear the unit and leave it clean, and once we’ve checked it, we refund your unused days.

Not a tenancy deposit

A storage deposit isn’t the same as a tenancy deposit. Deposit protection schemes are for people renting their home on a tenancy. Storing with us is a licence to occupy a unit, not the tenancy of a home.
