What if smart entry won’t open the gate, or my phone dies?

If the gate won’t open, first check that Bluetooth and Location Services are switched on, because smart entry can’t reach the locks without them, and that you’re visiting within access hours, normally 6am to 10pm. If it still won’t open, or your phone has died, call us on 0800 2545585 and we’ll help you from there.

Quick checks at the gate

  1. Bluetooth and Location Services on. Smart entry talks to the locks over Bluetooth, and it needs Location Services as well.
  2. The time. Access is normally 6am to 10pm, seven days a week. Times can vary by site, and Cheltenham’s hours are slightly different, so check your site’s page.
  3. Your unit door. If your unit has a smart lock, wake it by touching its light before you unlock from your phone.
  4. Still stuck? Call us on 0800 2545585 with your name and unit details ready. We may ask a few security questions first, to make sure it’s really you. That check is part of what keeps your unit safe.

Setting up for the first time

Before your move-in date, you’ll get a text from Noke with a link and a temporary password for Storage Smart Entry. When you log in, choose the United Kingdom flag (+44) and enter your mobile number without the first zero. The temporary password lasts 24 hours, so if your text is older than that, just ask us for a new one. If you’re new to smart entry, we’d suggest moving in on a weekday, when you can reach us easily on the phone.

If your phone dies

Your phone is your key, which is what keeps everyone else out of your unit, so a little planning goes a long way:

  • Charge up before you go, and bring a charging cable or power bank on a long moving day.
  • Save 0800 2545585 in your phone so a problem is a quick call, not a wasted trip.
  • Plan early, late and Sunday visits. Our office is open Monday to Saturday, with hours that vary by site, so a charged phone matters most outside those times.

If your phone dies while you’re inside, you won’t be stuck: there are push-to-exit buttons near the main exits, and units only lock from the outside. For what your phone needs to work on site, see phone signal and Wi-Fi at our sites.

No smartphone, or visiting for someone else?

You don’t need a smartphone to store with us. Let us know when you book and we can supply a fob instead. At Chipping Norton, entry works differently for everyone: you use your own PIN at the door and your own padlock on your unit.

If a friend, relative or removals firm will visit without you, you can share access with them in advance from your phone, for a set time or indefinitely. Our guide to sharing access to your unit explains how.
