It comes down to three things: how much is in the unit, how many people are carrying, and how many van trips it takes to get everything to its next home. The good news is that you don’t have to do it in one go: once you’ve given notice, you can clear the unit over as many visits as you like before your end date, any day from 6am to 10pm.
Give notice first, then take your time
Email us at hello@wigwamstorage.co.uk with the date you’d like your storage to end. Notice is normally 14 days, and you pay up to your end date, not beyond it. Clearing the unit early doesn’t bring that date forward, so the sooner you email, the sooner it arrives, and you then have the whole notice period to move things out at a pace that suits you.
If a removals firm or a borrowed van is only free on one day, that’s fine too. Book the day, and plan the rest around it.
What makes it quicker
- Bring a second pair of hands: one person loads the van while the other brings the next trolley load out, which keeps the shared corridors clear.
- Use our trolleys, which are free at every site, and ask us whether your site has a pallet truck for anything heavy.
- Park in the customer car park, free while you load, so the van sits close by.
- Choose a van big enough to cut down the trips. At Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster, drive-up units and containers let you park right by the door.
- Get help if you’d like it. Our team doesn’t carry, as this is self storage, but we can recommend local removals and man-and-van firms.
Sorting as you go
Clearing out is a natural moment to decide what you really want to keep. Our sites don’t have bins, so anything you’re letting go of leaves with you: book a charity collection or a tip run for before your last day.
Your last visit
Take everything out, give the floor a quick sweep and leave the unit clean and tidy, ready for the next customer. Then email us to say you’ve gone. We’ll check the unit and refund any days you’ve paid for but won’t use. New customers don’t pay a deposit, so there’s nothing else to wait for.
If you think you might be running late on the final day, push-to-exit buttons near the main exits will let you out after 10pm, though charges may apply for out-of-hours access, so aim to finish in good time.
