A pallet truck (also called a pallet jack or pump truck) is a wheeled tool with two forks that slide into the gaps in a pallet. Pumping the handle lifts the pallet just clear of the floor, so one person can wheel a heavy load across a flat surface. Manual ones are pushed and pulled by hand, and powered ones have a battery-driven motor. A standard pallet truck lifts only far enough to move the load, so it can’t raise a pallet onto a shelf or down from a lorry bed the way a forklift can.
At Wigwam
Free trolleys are ready to use at every Wigwam site, and a pallet truck may also be available at yours. If you’d like to use one, ask us before you travel and we’ll check.
There’s no forklift on site, so for a pallet delivery, ask your haulier for a vehicle with a tail-lift and a pallet truck of their own, and book it for a time when you, or someone you’ve shared access with, can be there to meet it and check the goods. Wheel the pallet straight into your unit so the corridors stay clear for everyone. Our business storage page explains how units work for stock.
A ground-floor unit makes pallets easiest, because the truck can roll straight from the vehicle to your door. At Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster you can also rent drive-up units and external containers, where the vehicle parks beside the door.
