Ground-floor unit

A ground-floor unit is a storage unit on the street-level floor of a storage building, so you can wheel or carry things in without using stairs or a lift. It is still an indoor unit, which is what separates it from a drive-up unit, where you park at the unit’s own outside door.

At Wigwam

We have ground-floor units, and our ground-floor units have step-free access, so they’re the surest choice for heavy furniture, a big one-day move, or anyone who can’t manage stairs. Not every size is on every floor, so your quote shows exactly which sizes are free on the ground floor at your site, or call us and we’ll check.

On moving day you can park for free while you unload, and trolleys are free to use. If you can’t carry far, ask us for a ground-floor unit close to the entrance when you book.

Ground floor or upstairs?

Upstairs units are often cheaper, which suits light boxes you’ll rarely visit. Sites with a lift to their upper floors include Alton, Bath, Burton-on-Trent, Chipping Norton, Dorking, Lincoln, March and Tewkesbury, while the first floors at Leatherhead and Cheltenham are stairs only, and are priced lower to match. If you’re bringing a wardrobe, a bike or anything long upstairs, ask us whether it will fit the lift at your site before you book.

If you start upstairs and it becomes too much, call us about moving to a ground-floor unit; it depends on what’s free at your site.

To ask for the ground floor, or about the lift at your site, call us on 0800 2545585, or get a price online.
