If you’re giving up your room and there’s no space at home for your things, a small storage unit keeps everything in one place until you’re back. Once it’s set up, it runs itself: payments are taken automatically every four weeks, and a parent or friend can have their own access while you’re away.
If family can take a few boxes, you may need very little space, or none at all, so start by sorting what you’ll take with you, what can go home, and what’s left.
Choosing a size
A 25 sq ft unit holds roughly a spare room’s worth, or a few pieces of furniture and some boxes. If you’re storing a desk, a bed frame and kitchen things from a shared house, 50 sq ft gives you more room. Tell us what you’ve got and we’ll help you choose.
What a year costs
On our October 2026 price lists, the middle price across our sites was £85 every four weeks for a 25 sq ft unit and £133 for 50 sq ft, before any offer and before contents cover. We bill every four weeks, so a full year is 13 payments: £1,105 for 25 sq ft, or £1,729 for 50 sq ft, at those prices. Prices vary from town to town and change often, so your quote shows today’s figure. We often run promotions and discounts for long-term storage, so ask us what’s on before you book.
New customers pay no deposit. You pay your first four weeks in advance, plus contents cover if you take ours.
Running it from abroad
Set up a card payment or Direct Debit before you go, and each payment is taken on its due date, with an invoice emailed 5 to 7 days before. If you’ll be using a card from a bank outside the UK, call us first and we’ll talk you through it.
Through smart entry, you can share access with a parent or friend, for a set time or with no end date, so they can check on things or fetch something you need. At Chipping Norton, which uses padlocks, you give them the key and access codes instead. A parent can also book the unit in their own name and share access with you.
Your things need contents cover for the whole stay, through our contents protection or your own policy, so check whether your family’s home insurance covers belongings in self storage.
Coming back
The minimum stay is two weeks, and after that your storage carries on until you give notice, normally 14 days. Email us your end date once you know when you’re back, even if a placement finishes early, and we refund any days you’ve paid for but not used once the unit is empty and checked.
