An alternate contact is a backup for emergencies: if something urgent comes up, such as a time when access to your unit is needed quickly, and we can’t reach you, there’s someone we can talk to. We only use their details responsibly and when necessary, and we never send them marketing.
Why it’s worth having
Your belongings may sit in your unit for weeks or months between visits, and life doesn’t always let us get hold of you: a new phone number, time abroad, a spell of illness. A second name means that if we ever need to reach someone about your storage in a hurry, there’s a way through, and your things aren’t left waiting on a phone that isn’t answering.
Who to choose
We’ll ask for someone who doesn’t live at your address, with their name, phone number and home address, plus an email address if they have one. That way, if we can’t get through to you at home, we still have someone else to try.
A relative or friend you trust, and who’s easy to reach, is the natural choice. Please tell them before you book and check they’re happy for you to share their details with us, as we’ll keep them with your storage agreement. Our privacy policy explains how we look after personal information.
What it doesn’t change
Naming someone as your alternate contact doesn’t give them access to your unit. You still decide who can get in. If you’d like a family member or colleague to be able to visit, you can share access through smart entry, for a set time or indefinitely. At Chipping Norton, which uses padlocks, you share access by giving them your key and access code. Our guide to sharing access to your unit explains how.
Keeping it up to date
If your alternate contact moves or changes their number, or you’d like to name someone else, email us at hello@wigwamstorage.co.uk within 48 hours of the change, just as you would for your own details. It means we’ll be trying the right person if we ever need to.
If you’re not sure who to name, call us on 0800 2545585 and we’ll talk it through. When you’re ready, you can get a price online and book.
