Stretch wrap, also called pallet wrap or stretch film, is a thin, clingy plastic film that stretches as you wind it round something and grips itself without tape. Removers use it to keep drawers and doors shut, protect upholstery from dirt in the van, and hold stacks of boxes together on a pallet.
At Wigwam
Plastic is great for the journey, but in storage it can trap moisture. If your furniture arrives stretch-wrapped, loosen or remove the film once it’s in your unit, and use breathable covers such as blankets or dust sheets for a longer stay. Our online Box Shop sells polythene sofa, chair and mattress covers for the move, and a thick furniture blanket that suits the unit.
Using it well
- Wrap only clean, completely dry items, never anything still damp.
- Never wrap directly onto polished wood or leather for a long stay; put a blanket or paper between.
- It’s ideal for keeping drawers closed and bundling chair legs or rods together.
- On pallets of stock, it stops boxes shifting, but leave the top open to air if the pallet will stand for months.
