A sack truck is an upright, two-wheeled hand truck with a small flat plate at the bottom. You tip a heavy load, such as a stack of boxes, a fridge or a washing machine, back onto the wheels and roll it along, taking the weight off your back. Unlike a flat trolley, it’s narrow enough to get through doorways and round tight corners.
At Wigwam
Free trolleys are ready to use at every Wigwam site, and they carry most loads from the car park to your door. If you’d like a sack truck for heavy appliances, bring your own if you have one, and ask us whether your site has a pallet truck for anything on a pallet.
If you’d rather not do the lifting, we can recommend local removals and man-and-van firms who’ll bring their own equipment.
Using one safely
- Load the heaviest item at the bottom, against the backplate, and strap tall loads in.
- Tip the truck back until the weight balances over the wheels, then push rather than pull.
- Go slowly on ramps and lift thresholds, and ask someone to steady tall loads.
- Fridges and freezers should stay upright where possible, so check the manufacturer’s advice.
