Removal blanket

A removal blanket (also called a moving, furniture or transit blanket) is a heavy textile blanket wrapped round furniture and appliances to protect them from knocks, scratches and scuffs while they’re carried and driven. Unlike a polythene sofa cover or mattress bag, it cushions as well as covers, and unlike a thin dust sheet, it’s made to take bumps.

At Wigwam

Our Box Shop sells a thick, durable furniture blanket, 1500 x 2000mm, made from strong, heavy-duty textile fibres and delivered to your door. Our Burton, Bath, Chipping Norton and Dorking sites also sell packaging in store during office hours.

In the van, then in the unit

On moving day, wrap arms, legs and corners first and hold the blanket in place with tape around the blanket itself, never on the wood or upholstery. A blanket also stops a fridge or washing machine getting scratched on the way in, and free trolleys at every site make light work of the heavy pieces.

Once everything is in your unit, a blanket earns its keep a second time. Blankets are breathable, so they keep dust off sofas, tables and antiques without trapping moisture the way plastic sealed round furniture for months can. If the removal company wrapped your furniture in plastic, take it off or open it up once it’s unloaded, and lay a blanket or cotton sheet over it instead.

Make sure everything is clean and completely dry before it’s covered, and keep heavy things off polished tops, so it comes out as it went in. If you’d like help choosing a unit for a houseful of furniture, call us on 0800 2545585.
