Yes, at ground level. Our ground-floor units have step-free access, so a ground-floor unit is the surest choice if you use a wheelchair. Tell us you need step-free access when you book, and we’ll find a ground-floor unit in the size you need.
Upper floors
Several of our sites have a lift to the upper floors, including Alton, Bath, Burton-on-Trent, Chipping Norton, Dorking, Lincoln, March, Tewkesbury and Warminster. Bromsgrove’s is a goods lift. At Leatherhead and Cheltenham the first floor has no lift, so the ground floor is the one to choose there.
If you’d want to travel in a lift in your wheelchair, ask us about that site’s lift before you choose an upper-floor unit, so we can make sure it suits you. At some sites the smallest units are upstairs, so if you need a small unit on the level, tell us the size and we’ll find the nearest match on the ground floor, or at a nearby site.
Drive-up units and containers
At Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster we also have a limited number of drive-up units and outdoor containers. You park right next to the unit and load straight in, with no lifts or corridors in between, and lock up with your own padlock. If you’d like one for level access, ask us which are free and what the doorway is like.
Getting in and moving your things
Every site has parking, and you can park free while you unload. Where your site uses smart entry, the doors and your unit open from your phone; if a smartphone doesn’t suit you, let us know and we can supply a fob instead. Chipping Norton works with a PIN code and your own padlock, so think about whether a padlock is easy for you, or for whoever will visit.
You don’t have to come alone. You decide who can access your unit on your behalf, so a family member, carer or friend can come with you or go for you. If you’d like help carrying, we can put you in touch with local removals and man-and-van firms.
If you’re arranging storage for a parent or relative, choose the unit with their needs in mind: a first-floor unit you’d manage easily could be out of reach on their own visit.
If a site doesn’t suit you
Tell us what you need and we’ll look at what we can do, such as a ground-floor unit instead of an upstairs one, or one closer to the entrance. We’ve done exactly that for a customer at Leatherhead. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers like us must take reasonable steps where something like a flight of stairs puts a disabled customer at a disadvantage, and can’t charge you for them. You’re also welcome to visit reception and see a unit before you book.
Call us on 0800 2545585 and say you need step-free access, or get a price online and mention it when we confirm your booking.
