Getting started can be quick: if the size you need is free, you can book and move in on the same day, and several customers have told us in reviews that they were set up and ready to load within about an hour. The loading itself depends on how much you bring and how many of you are carrying, and with access from 6am to 10pm, seven days a week, you have a long day to work with.
Do the set-up before the van is loaded
Most of the waiting happens before you lift a box, so do it early:
- Book online or call us. Have a photo ID and a recent utility bill to hand for our quick identity check.
- Have the name, phone number and address of an alternate contact who lives somewhere else. It’s a backup for emergencies, and they won’t get any marketing.
- Pay your first four weeks and arrange contents cover, either ours or your own.
- Set up smart entry from the text we send. It comes from Noke with a temporary password that lasts 24 hours, so set it up as soon as it arrives, and allow Bluetooth and Location when asked.
For a first visit, a weekday is a good choice, as that’s when our team is easiest to reach by phone.
What makes loading quicker
- Trolleys are free to use at every site, and some sites have pallet trucks too.
- You can park free in the customer car park while you unload.
- Pack and label your boxes the day before, and plan to put the heaviest and least-needed things in first. Our guide to what should go in first saves re-stacking.
- A second pair of hands helps more than you’d think: one person unloads while the other wheels each load straight into your unit, which keeps the shared corridors clear for everyone.
- If your unit is upstairs, ask about the lift when you book, or whether a ground-floor unit is free for heavy furniture.
- At Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster we have a limited number of drive-up units and containers, so you can park right by your door.
Our team doesn’t carry for you, as this is self storage, but if you’d like help we can put you in touch with local removals and man-and-van firms we recommend. If a firm is moving you, see whether a removals firm can drop off without you.
Fitting it into the day
Access is 6am to 10pm, seven days a week. Times can vary slightly by site (Cheltenham’s differ a little), so check yours when you book. If you’re still inside at closing, push-to-exit buttons near the main exits let you out, though out-of-hours access may carry a charge, so aim to finish by 10pm.
