A double-wall box is a cardboard box made from corrugated board with two wavy (fluted) layers between three flat liners. The extra layer makes it stronger and better at resisting crushing than a single-wall box, which has one fluted layer between two liners. You can tell them apart by looking at a cut edge.
At Wigwam
Every box in our Box Shop is a strong, double-walled box. That matters in storage, where a box has to carry the weight of the boxes above it for weeks or months, not just survive a van ride. There are four sizes:
| Box | Size | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | 457 x 330 x 330mm | Books, kitchenware, tools and paperwork |
| Large | 450 x 450 x 500mm | Bedding, towels, cushions and folded clothes |
| Extra Large | 450 x 450 x 750mm | Lamps, tall ornaments and awkward shapes |
| Wardrobe Box | 508 x 457 x 1016mm | Clothes on hangers |
The Medium, Large and Extra Large come singly or in packs of ten, which work out cheaper per box, and our moving kits bundle them with tape and a marker pen. In the kits, the Extra Large is called the “Tall” box. Everything is delivered to your door, and our Burton, Bath, Chipping Norton and Dorking sites also sell packaging in store during office hours.
Packing them well
Put heavy things like books in the Medium so each box stays easy to lift, and light, bulky things in the Large. The Large and Extra Large share the same 450 x 450mm base, so they sit squarely on top of each other. Fill every box to the top so it doesn’t sink under the one above, keep the heaviest at the bottom, and label each one on more than one side.
