Packing paper is plain, unprinted paper for wrapping fragile items and filling the gaps in boxes so nothing shifts. It does the job people often use newspaper for, without the printing ink that can rub off onto your things.
At Wigwam
Our Box Shop sells White Packing Paper in a 2.5kg bundle, delivered to your door. It’s ink-free, so it keeps glasses, plates, ornaments and kitchenware clean, and it doubles as void-fill to stop things moving inside a box. Our Burton, Bath, Chipping Norton and Dorking sites also sell packaging in store during office hours, so ask the office what’s on the shelf when you visit.
Paper, bubble wrap and towels
Each does a slightly different job, and they work well together:
- packing paper gives a clean first layer against each piece and fills the spaces so nothing rattles;
- bubble wrap adds cushioning round delicate things such as glasses, mugs and small electronics;
- towels and soft linen cushion well too, and you’re packing them anyway.
For china staying in your unit for months, put paper against each piece, wrap loosely rather than taping anything airtight, and pack nothing while it’s damp. Fill every box to the top with paper if needed, so it doesn’t sink under the box above.
For precious silver, the National Trust advises: “Do not wrap silver in newspaper as this will rapidly tarnish it, nor seal in bubblewrap or plastic as these trap moisture.” If you’re storing heirlooms and want a hand planning how to pack them, call us on 0800 2545585.
