Bubble wrap is plastic sheeting with small pockets of trapped air, used to wrap fragile things so that knocks and pressure are taken by the bubbles rather than the item. It cushions well, but it doesn’t let air through, so anything wrapped tightly or taped shut in it can hold moisture in.
At Wigwam
Our Box Shop sells Green Bio bubble wrap, described on its product pages as biodegradable, in two rolls: a smaller 500mm x 10m roll and a larger 750mm x 25m roll. The bigger roll also comes in our Standard and Large moving kits, alongside boxes, tape and a marker pen. Everything is delivered to your door, and our Burton, Bath, Chipping Norton and Dorking sites also sell packaging in store during office hours.
Using it well in storage
- Wrap each fragile piece on its own: glasses, mugs, ornaments and small electronics.
- Fill the gaps in the box with packing paper so nothing shifts, and put lighter, fragile boxes on top.
- For anything staying in your unit for months, wrap loosely rather than taping it airtight, and pack nothing while it’s damp.
- Towels and soft linen cushion well too, and you’re packing them anyway.
For precious things, the National Trust suggests storing ceramics “in a strong plastic case wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and bubblewrap”, but warns against sealing silver “in bubblewrap or plastic as these trap moisture”.
