A lien is a right to hold someone’s goods as security for money they owe and, where the agreement allows, to sell them to recover the debt. In self storage, it’s the storage company’s right over what’s stored if fees go unpaid, and it’s a last resort.

At Wigwam

Our terms include a lien, but we’d always rather help you long before it could ever matter. If a payment is missed, we’ll get in touch promptly and help you put it right, for example with a secure link to pay by card. If money’s tight, call us and we’ll look at your options together, such as a smaller unit.

While a payment is outstanding, our terms allow us to pause access to the unit until it’s settled. If a debt stayed unpaid, we would write to you formally, by post and email, before anything stored could ever be sold. That’s why we contact you early, and why a quick call from you makes such a difference.

Our letters go to the postal and email addresses you last gave us, so please tell us when either changes.

Lien or overlocking?

Overlocking means fitting an extra lock so a unit can’t be opened until the account is settled; nothing is sold, and access returns once it’s paid. A lien is the wider right to hold the goods, and selling them is only ever the final step, after written notice.

If you’re worried about a payment, call us on 0800 2545585 or email hello@wigwamstorage.co.uk. You can read the detail in our terms and conditions.
