Assignment is transferring the rights under an agreement from one person to another, so the new person steps into the original person’s shoes. Many agreements, including most storage agreements, don’t let you assign them without the provider’s agreement, because the provider needs to know who it’s dealing with.

At Wigwam

You can’t hand your storage agreement to someone else yourself, but we can move your unit into someone else’s name, often with everything left in place. The new person sets up their own agreement with us, with their own ID and contact details, and your agreement ends. Call us on 0800 2545585 and we’ll talk you both through it.

If you only want someone else to be able to get in, you don’t need to transfer anything: you can share access with them through smart entry, for a set time or with no end date, while the unit stays in your name.

Assignment or subletting?

Assignment hands the agreement over completely. Subletting would mean renting your space to someone else while it stays yours, which isn’t allowed. Moving the unit into the other person’s name, or sharing access, is the simple way to do either job.
