Wardrobe box

A wardrobe box is a tall cardboard box with a hanging rail inside, so clothes go from the wardrobe into the box on their hangers and come out again without being folded. It’s made for coats, suits, dresses and shirts that crease or lose their shape when packed flat.

At Wigwam

Our Box Shop sells a Wardrobe Box, 508 x 457 x 1016mm, with a built-in metal hanging rail, a rigid double-walled design and an easy front-opening flap. At just over a metre tall it suits jackets, suits, shirts and most dresses; full-length coats and gowns may fold a little at the bottom. It’s sold on its own rather than in our moving kits, so add it to your order, and it’s delivered to your door. Our Burton, Bath, Chipping Norton and Dorking sites also sell packaging in store during office hours.

Keeping clothes fresh in storage

Clothes go musty when they’re put away unwashed or slightly damp, or sealed where air can’t reach them. A few simple steps keep them as fresh as they went in:

  • wash or dry-clean everything, then let it dry right through, checking seams, collars and pockets;
  • don’t crowd the rail, so air can move between garments;
  • keep the box off the floor, on a pallet or on top of boxes of hard items;
  • give special pieces, such as a wedding dress or a good coat, a breathable cotton garment bag.

Our units are clean, dry and secure, and every site has professional pest control. They aren’t climate-controlled, so the few minutes you spend preparing clothes before they go in make the real difference.

Moving house? Pack the wardrobe straight onto the rail on moving day, and the clothes can stay in the box in your unit. If you’d like help choosing a unit size, call us on 0800 2545585.
