It’s a licence: a simple agreement that lets you use and get to your own unit to store your belongings, rather than a lease or tenancy of a property. And yes, you sign it before you move in, as one of the quick steps when you book.
What a licence means for you
The unit is yours to use. Only you have access to it, and you decide who else can get in. Each unit has its own lock and its own alarm, and you can come and go seven days a week.
What makes it a licence rather than a lease is that we look after the building around your unit. That lets us carry out repairs, deal with an emergency or keep the site safe for everyone without waiting on each customer’s permission. If we ever needed to move you to another unit, it would be one at least as big as yours, at the same fee, and we’d let you know first.
The licence is also what keeps storage flexible. There’s no long tie-in: the minimum term is two weeks, and after that you stay for as long as you need. When you’re ready to leave, you email us your end date, normally with 14 days’ notice, and we refund any unused days once the empty unit has been checked.
A unit is for storage, so it can’t be lived in or used as an address. If you run a business, you’re welcome to keep stock, tools or archives in it.
Signing the agreement
When you book online, signing the agreement is one of the steps, along with a quick identity check and your first payment. You’ll need a photo ID and a recent utility bill, plus the details of an alternate contact who lives at a different address. If you’d rather book by phone, call us and we’ll take you through it.
A few things worth knowing before you sign:
- Read it through. Our full terms and conditions are online, and if anything was agreed specially for you, make sure it’s written into your agreement.
- Booking from home. If you book without coming to the site, you have 14 days after we confirm your booking to change your mind.
- If anything changes. We’d tell you in writing at least 28 days ahead, and you could leave without charge before the change applies.
A licence doesn’t take away your rights as a customer. If you’re storing as a private individual, you have the same consumer protections as with any other contract.
