Is it safe to visit my storage unit on my own early or late?

Yes, you can visit on your own whenever the site is open, normally 6am to 10pm, and here’s what looks after you while you do. The external doors have access control, so only customers with access can get in, our CCTV is monitored around the clock by a professional monitoring company, and if you’re still inside after closing time, push-to-exit buttons near the main exits let you out.

What’s in place while you’re there

Our sites have a secure perimeter, and you come in through the external doors with smart entry on your phone, or your own PIN at Chipping Norton. Every unit has its own alarm, and if one goes off when its owner isn’t there, our security team investigates.

Your unit can only be locked from the outside, so you can’t be shut in it. There’s a free toilet at every site, and free parking while you load and unload.

Seeing your way

Our Burton-on-Trent, Dorking, Lincoln and Reading sites have motion-sensitive lighting, which comes on as you move about the building. Larger units at indoor sites may have their own lights too, so ask when you book. On winter mornings and evenings, a battery lantern or head torch makes it easy to see into the back of your unit. Our guide to lighting in storage units has more tips.

A few easy habits

  • Let someone know when you’re going and roughly when you’ll be back.
  • Charge your phone before you set off and save 0800 2545585 in your contacts.
  • Park as close to the entrance as you can, and keep your car keys in your pocket.
  • Lock your unit whenever you step away, even for a minute.
  • If you’d like company, share access with a family member or friend, so they can come with you or go in your place.

If it’s your first visit and you’re not sure what to expect, a weekday daytime visit is a gentle start, as that’s when we’re easiest to reach on the phone.
