Some of our units do have their own internal lighting, particularly the larger units at our indoor sites. It varies by site and by unit, so if a light inside matters to you, tell us when you book and we’ll let you know what the unit you’re looking at has.
Lighting around our sites
Several of our sites, including Burton-on-Trent, Dorking, Lincoln and Reading, have motion-sensitive lighting, which comes on as you move about the building. If they switch off while you’re busy inside your unit, step back out to where the sensor can see you and they’ll come on again.
The easy way to see into every corner
Whatever unit you choose, a battery lantern or head torch is worth bringing. It lights up the back of a deep unit, helps on winter evenings when it’s dark well before closing time, and makes it much easier to find the one box you came for.
A few simple habits help too:
- Stand a lantern on a box near the middle of the unit, so the light spreads to both sides.
- Use a head torch when you’re carrying, so both hands stay free.
- Put the things you’ll need most near the door, and leave a gap to walk down.
- Label boxes in large writing on the sides that face you.
Why we ask you not to fix lights to the walls
Please don’t screw, stick or wire a light into your unit. Keeping walls and doors free of fixings means every unit stays in good condition for you and for the next customer, and our units don’t have power sockets for you to plug into. A free-standing battery light, set on a box or a shelf of your own, does the job without any fixing at all.
If you’d like to leave a light in the unit between visits, choose a simple battery lantern rather than one that doubles as a power bank, as power banks are among the things that can’t be stored. Our guide to storing e-bikes and batteries explains why.
Drive-up units and containers
At Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster you can also rent drive-up units and external containers, where you park beside the door. If you’ll be visiting one of these after dark, bring a torch, and ask us about the unit when you book.
To find a unit, get a price online, or call us on 0800 2545585 and ask about lighting while you book.
