Removals insurance

Removals insurance covers your belongings against loss or damage while a removal firm is packing, loading, carrying and unloading them. Removal firms usually offer it with their quote, and the level of cover, the excess and what counts as the firm’s fault vary between firms, so it’s worth reading the terms.

At Wigwam

Our contents protection starts the moment your things go into storage and runs until you take them out. For the journey to us, the cover that counts is the removal firm’s insurance or your own home insurance, so check with them before moving day.

Questions worth asking a removal firm:

  • Are my belongings covered throughout the move, including loading and unloading?
  • What’s the limit per item, and is there an excess?
  • Does the cover depend on who packed the boxes?
  • How long do I have to report damage after delivery?

When your things arrive

Check items as they come off the van, and note any damage before the crew leaves. Then, once everything is in your unit, your storage cover takes over: through our contents protection or your own policy.
