Summary of insurance

A summary of insurance is a short document that sets out the main features of an insurance policy in plain terms: what it covers, the main things it doesn’t cover, any limits and excess, and how to make a claim. It’s there so you can understand your cover at a glance, without reading the full policy wording.

At Wigwam

When you take our contents protection, we take out the insurance for the belongings you store, and you receive a summary of insurance setting out that cover. It’s the document to keep to hand, alongside your storage agreement.

In short, our cover is made for things in storage. It includes loss or damage from fire, lightning and explosion, storm, burst pipes or water leaks, theft involving forcible entry or exit, malicious damage, and moths, insects or vermin that come in from outside. It starts the moment your things go into storage and runs until you take them out. Claims are settled new for old for most things, and the excess is £50.

The summary also sets out the main exclusions. The one most worth knowing is gradual damp from the air, which is why packing everything clean and completely dry matters so much.

Reading it well

Check three things: that the value you declared is what it would cost to replace everything as new today, what isn’t covered, and how to claim. If anything in it isn’t clear, call us on 0800 2545585 and we’ll go through it with you.
