Proof of ownership is evidence that you owned an item and what it was worth, such as receipts, bank statements, photos, valuations, serial numbers or the original box. Insurers may ask for it when you make a claim, so they can confirm what was lost or damaged and how much to pay.
At Wigwam
If you ever claim on our contents protection, we, our insurer or its loss adjuster may ask you for photos, receipts and other details. Gathering them before you need them makes any claim much simpler.
What to keep
- A simple list of what’s in your unit, room by room or box by box.
- Photos of furniture, electricals and anything valuable before it goes in, plus a quick photo of the packed unit.
- Receipts or bank statements for bigger purchases, and valuations for jewellery or antiques.
- Serial numbers for electronics and tools.
Keep these at home or online, not in the unit itself. They also help you declare the right replacement value for your cover, so that a claim is paid in full.
