Goods-in-transit insurance covers goods against loss or damage while they’re being carried by road, from the moment they’re loaded until they’re delivered. Couriers, removal firms and businesses that move their own stock often hold it, because standard premises or contents cover usually stops at the door.
At Wigwam
If your business keeps stock with us, your cover works in two parts:
- In storage: everything in your unit needs contents cover, through our contents protection or your own business insurance. Ours starts the moment your stock goes into storage and runs until you take it out.
- On the road: goods-in-transit cover, through your own insurer, a courier or a haulier, protects stock on its way to or from your unit.
When you declare a value for cover, use what it would cost to replace your stock today, and keep the figure in step as stock builds up.
Worth checking
Ask your insurer whether your goods-in-transit policy covers loading and unloading, unattended vehicles, and stock left in a van overnight, as these are often limited. Keeping stock in a unit rather than in the van overnight can be simpler.
