Public liability insurance

Public liability insurance covers a business if a member of the public, such as a customer or passer-by, claims that the business injured them or damaged their property, paying legal costs and any compensation awarded. It’s common for tradespeople, market traders and anyone who works with the public, and some venues and events ask to see it.

At Wigwam

Our contents protection covers your own belongings while they’re in storage, against things like fire, water leaks and theft involving forcible entry. It isn’t liability cover: it doesn’t cover claims made against you by other people. If your business needs public liability insurance, for markets, events or work on customers’ premises, that comes from your own business insurer.

A business that stores with us may need several kinds of cover:

  • contents cover for stock and equipment in the unit, ours or their own;
  • goods-in-transit cover for stock on the road;
  • public liability cover for their work with the public.

Your insurer or broker can tell you what your business needs.
