Fragile tape

Fragile tape is packing tape printed with a warning such as “FRAGILE” or “HANDLE WITH CARE”, usually in red or bright colours, so anyone lifting the box knows to take care with it. It seals the box and labels it in one go, and it can be seen from any side once it’s wrapped round.

At Wigwam

Our online Box Shop sells strong double-walled boxes and plain packing tape, both 50mm wide: buff solvent tape for heavy boxes and kraft paper tape that tears by hand. Seal with plain tape, then mark fragile boxes clearly with a marker pen, or add a strip of fragile tape if you have some.

Packing fragile things for storage

  • Wrap each item separately in packing paper or bubble wrap, and fill every gap so nothing moves.
  • Use smaller boxes for breakables, so they don’t get too heavy to lift carefully.
  • Mark the box “FRAGILE” and “THIS WAY UP” on more than one side.
  • In your unit, put fragile boxes on top of solid ones, never underneath, and keep them where you won’t need to move them to reach other things.

Our packing guide has more on stacking safely.
