A credit check is when a business looks at your credit file, held by a credit reference agency, before giving you credit or a service you’ll pay for later. A “hard” search is recorded on your file and visible to other lenders; a “soft” search is visible only to you and doesn’t affect your credit score.
At Wigwam
Booking storage with us starts with a quick identity check. When you book online, a secure check matches your photo ID to you with a quick selfie, and we ask for a recent utility bill as proof of address. You pay your first four weeks’ storage in advance, plus contents cover if you take ours, and we’re not currently taking deposits.
If a search on your credit file matters to you, for example because you’re about to apply for a mortgage, call us on 0800 2545585 before you book and we’ll talk you through what the booking involves.
Why storage is paid in advance
Because each payment covers the four weeks ahead, rather than being billed afterwards, storage works differently from credit. Once you’ve moved out and we’ve checked the unit, we refund any days you’ve paid for but won’t use.
