Climate-controlled storage

Climate-controlled storage is storage where equipment such as heating, air conditioning or dehumidifiers keeps a unit’s temperature, and often its humidity, within a set range all year. Standard self storage protects belongings from the weather without that equipment, so the temperature inside follows the seasons to some degree.

At Wigwam

We offer standard self storage: clean, dry and secure units, with our indoor units purpose-built inside our buildings, out of the wind and rain. They aren’t heated or cooled, and for most household belongings that’s no problem. What matters far more than the temperature is keeping damp out, and the way you pack does most of that work:

  • pack everything clean and completely dry, and never store anything that’s still damp;
  • lift things off the floor and leave a small gap at the walls so air can move;
  • use breathable covers, such as blankets or dust sheets, rather than sealing furniture in plastic;
  • drain and dry anything that holds water, such as a washing machine or a fridge.

At Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster we also have outdoor steel containers, and at Chipping Norton and Shipston-on-Stour we insulate them to stop condensation.

To keep everyone’s belongings safe from fire, portable heaters can’t be used in units, and units have no power sockets, so nothing is ever left running.

Storing something sensitive?

Fine art, musical instruments and photographs need a little more thought. If you have something you’d call temperature-sensitive, give us a call on 0800 2545585 or email hello@wigwamstorage.co.uk, and we’ll talk through the best way to store it.
