A book box is a small, strong box meant for heavy, dense things such as books, files, kitchenware and tools. Keeping heavy items in small boxes means each one stays light enough to lift safely and strong enough to carry the weight of other boxes stacked on top.

At Wigwam

Our online Box Shop sells four sizes of strong double-walled box, and the Medium box is the one suggested for books, kitchenware, tools and paperwork. It comes singly or in packs of ten, and it’s included in our moving kits.

Packing books for storage

  • Pack books flat, or upright as they’d stand on a shelf, so the covers and spines are supported.
  • Fill gaps with packing paper so nothing slides about.
  • Keep each box to a weight you can lift comfortably.
  • Put book boxes at the bottom of a stack, with lighter boxes on top.
  • Pack everything completely dry, keep boxes off the floor, and leave a small gap at the walls so air can move.

Rare or valuable books are best kept with you, as items that could never be replaced shouldn’t go into storage. We’ve written more on packing and storing books.
