How can I keep my storage costs down?

The biggest saving is choosing the smallest unit your things will fit, so packing well pays for itself. After that, look at upper-floor units and our introductory offers, check your contents cover, and give notice as soon as you know your leaving date.

Choose the right size

Our team are experts at working out the space required, so call us on 0800 2545585, tell us what you’re storing, and we’ll help you find the smallest unit that fits. Our room-by-room size guide is a good place to start.

Pack to save space

  • Use sturdy boxes of a similar size, so they stack neatly and safely.
  • Put heavier boxes at the bottom and things you’ll need often near the front.
  • Take furniture apart where you can, and tape small parts to the piece they belong to.
  • Sort before you store. Anything you won’t want again is costing you space; our guide to whether to store, sell or give away furniture can help.

Look at upper floors and offers

At several of our sites, upper-floor units cost less than the same size on the ground floor. If you’re storing heavy items, ask whether there’s a lift first. Our sites often run an introductory offer for new customers too, and we often run seasonal promotions, so ask us what’s available at your site. Our prices and offers change often, so get a price online to compare sizes and floors today.

Check your contents cover

Everything you store needs cover for its full replacement value, through our contents protection or your own policy. If your home insurance already covers items in self storage, send us proof within 14 days of moving in and we’ll refund our contents protection charges in full. If you take ours, the charge is based on the replacement value you declare, so a careful, accurate figure helps; see how to calculate a full replacement value.

Keep things simple as you go

  • Move to a smaller unit if you’ve cleared things out. You can transfer if one is free at your site, so just give us a call.
  • Keep your card details up to date. We email your invoice 5 to 7 days before each payment, which is a handy reminder to check, and it helps you avoid late charges.
  • Give notice early. Notice is normally 14 days, by email to hello@wigwamstorage.co.uk, and we refund any days you’ve paid for after your notice ends.
  • Leave the unit clean and empty, with any rubbish taken away, to avoid a cleaning charge.

New customers don’t pay a security deposit, so there’s nothing tied up while you store.
