Yes. Moving to another Wigwam site works by closing your current unit and opening a new one at the site you’re moving to, and with a little planning you’ll only have both for a day or two. If you’re moving house and haven’t chosen the new site yet, our answer on storing near your old or new home helps you decide. If you’d like help lining up the dates, just call us.
Moving sites, step by step
- Get a price for the new site. Prices and available sizes vary from site to site, so get a price online for the new site, or call us to check your size is free.
- Book the new unit to start on, or just before, your moving day. You pay your first four weeks’ rent when you book, with no deposit. Make sure your contents cover is in place for the new unit from the day your things go in, whether that’s our contents protection or your own policy.
- Give notice on your current unit. Email us your end date. Your notice period is on the front page of your storage agreement, normally 14 days.
- Move your things across during access hours, normally 6am to 10pm. If you’d like a hand, we can recommend local removals and man and van firms.
- Leave your old unit empty, clean and tidy, and email us to let us know you’ve moved out. Once the unit has been checked, we refund any unused days. If you paid a deposit when you first joined us, that’s refunded too, less anything owed.
Getting the timing right
The neatest way is to start the new unit on moving day and set your old unit’s end date for the day after. For example, if your notice period is 14 days and you’re moving on a Thursday, email your notice a little over two weeks beforehand, choose the Friday as your end date, and start the new unit on the Thursday. You’ll have both units for just two days, with a spare day if the move runs over.
It’s worth sending your notice in good time, because if you give less notice than your agreement asks for, we can charge storage fees for the part of the notice period you didn’t give.
If your moving date changes after you’ve given notice, let us know as soon as you can, and before your end date. A new end date needs to be agreed in writing, so ask us to confirm it by email.
Staying at the same site?
If you simply need more or less space where you are, you can change to a bigger or smaller unit at your current site, subject to availability.
