Usually, choose storage near where you’ll need your things next. If they’re going into your new home, a site near the new place means a short last trip. If you’re clearing your old home in stages, or you’re not sure where you’ll end up, a site near the old one saves you long drives with a loaded car.
A quick way to decide
Ask yourself three questions:
- Where will most of the trips happen? If you’ll be dropping things off over several weekends while you clear the old house, near the old home wins. If you’ll be fetching things back once you’ve moved, near the new home wins.
- How long is the gap? For a short gap between selling and buying, the one big move in and one big move out matter most, so pick whichever end makes those easiest. For a longer stay, think about where you’ll be living while things are in storage.
- Who is doing the lifting? If a removals firm is moving everything in one go, the distance matters less to you than the trips you’ll make yourself afterwards.
If you’re not sure yet
Plans change, especially in a chain. If you start at a site near your old home and later want to be nearer the new one, you can move your storage to another Wigwam site: you close your current unit and open a new one at the other site, and with good timing you only pay for both for a day or two.
Our site list shows where they all are, so you can see which is nearest to each end of your move.
Whichever you choose
- The minimum stay is just two weeks, and after that your storage carries on until you give notice, normally 14 days.
- You can visit from 6am to 10pm, seven days a week, so early starts and evening drop-offs both work.
- There’s free parking while you unload, and free trolleys to help.
- If you’d like help with the heavy lifting, we can recommend local removals and man-and-van firms.
