Store it if you’ll want it in your next home and it would cost more to replace than to keep for the time you’re renting. If the furnished let is a long-term plan, or the pieces are easy to buy again, selling or giving them away is often the better choice.
Three questions to settle it
How long will you be renting furnished? A few months between homes is very different from a few years. The longer the stay, the more storage costs add up, so the case for keeping each piece needs to be stronger.
What would it cost to buy again? Add up roughly what you’d pay to replace the furniture you’re thinking of keeping, at today’s prices. A good sofa, a solid wood table or a bed you love can cost far more to replace than to store for a while. Flat-pack pieces are often cheaper to buy again.
Will it suit where you’re heading? If you’re renting while you buy, or while you find your feet in a new area, picture the next home. Furniture that won’t fit the rooms you’re likely to have isn’t worth storing. If you are moving back in with your parents to save instead, see where your furniture should go.
Putting numbers on it
On our price lists in October 2026, the middle price for a 50 sq ft unit, as a rough guide right for a studio or small one-bedroom flat, was £133 every four weeks. A 75 sq ft unit for a two-bedroom flat was £174. We bill every four weeks, so six months (26 weeks) in a 50 sq ft unit is six and a half payments, £864.50, before any offer. Prices change often, and our sites often run an introductory offer, so get a price online for today’s figure near you, and set it against your replacement total.
Storing only part of it
You don’t have to keep everything or nothing. Keeping only the pieces that matter most and letting the rest go can drop you a whole unit size. Taking beds and tables apart helps too.
Storage that moves at your pace
New customers pay no deposit, and the total in your quote is what you pay. The shortest stay is two weeks, so if your plans change you’re not tied in: give notice, normally 14 days, and we refund any unused days once the unit has been checked. If you stay longer than you planned, your storage simply carries on. Your furniture needs contents cover while it’s stored, through our contents protection or your own policy.
