Yes, you can sell things you keep with us, and a unit makes a handy holding room while they’re listed. The one thing to plan for is the handover: do it away from the site, because your unit is a place for storing rather than for viewings or sales.
A simple routine that works
- Photograph and measure the item in your unit.
- List it with your home, or another handover point, as the collection address.
- When it sells, fetch it from your unit during access hours (normally 6am to 10pm, seven days a week).
- Hand it over at your home, the buyer’s home or a busy public place.
If you’re posting what you sell, pack and send it as you normally would. Our page on packing orders in your unit covers that side.
Why handovers happen away from the site
Our sites are shared by lots of customers, and their belongings are behind the doors next to yours. Keeping buyers, viewings and sales off site keeps everyone’s things private and secure, and keeps corridors and car parks clear for people loading. So please don’t hold a sale or open day at your unit, or set things out in shared areas to show them.
For the same reason, smart entry access is for people you trust to act for you, such as a partner or colleague, rather than a buyer. Our page on sharing access explains how to set someone up.
Something too big to move twice?
If you’ve sold a wardrobe or a three-piece suite and moving it twice makes no sense, call us before you arrange the collection. We’ll talk through the best way to do it at your site.
Clearing a house or an estate
A unit is a calm place to hold furniture while the family decides what to keep. When you’re ready to sell, you can bring items out and sell them from home, online, at a car boot sale or through an auction house. If a dealer, auctioneer or clearance firm needs to collect from your unit, give us a call first so we can help you plan it. Someone from your side will need to be there to let them in. Our guide to storing, selling or giving away furniture can help with the deciding.
If you trade
The same approach works for businesses: keep your stock in the unit, and take samples to your clients rather than inviting them to the site.
