Can I use my storage unit as a workshop, studio or rehearsal space?

Your unit is a great home for your tools, materials and instruments, and you can come in as often as you like to load up, sort your kit and take out what you need, normally between 6am and 10pm. The making, mending, painting and playing are best done somewhere built for them, such as a workshop, studio or rehearsal room, because our units are for storage only.

Why the work happens elsewhere

Our units sit side by side in shared buildings. Noise and vibration carry straight through to the next unit, and dust, offcuts and cutting tools bring a fire risk that a building full of other people’s belongings shouldn’t carry. Our units don’t have power sockets either, so they aren’t set up for tools, lights or amps. Keeping every unit for storage is what keeps your kit, and everyone else’s, safe.

What you can do at your unit

  • Store tools, machinery, timber, materials and finished pieces.
  • Keep drums, amps, guitars, PA and lighting between gigs.
  • Load and unload, sort and stack, and pack your things for a move.
  • Pick up what you need for a job, a gig or a craft fair, and bring it back afterwards.
  • Pick and pack orders from your own stock, if you sell online: see can I pack orders in my storage unit?

Freestanding shelving is a good way to keep tools organised. Just don’t fix anything to the walls.

Makers and tradespeople

Your tools, timber and furniture waiting for restoration can all live with us, while you do the cutting, sanding and finishing at home, on site, or in a workshop let or community makerspace. Paints, wood finishes and solvents need to stay out of the unit, so keep them at home: our guide to storing paint and decorating supplies explains why.

Bands and musicians

A unit is an easy place to keep the drum kit and amps between rehearsals. For playing, a local rehearsal studio gives you the space and the volume without disturbing anyone. Our guide to storing musical instruments has tips on keeping them in good shape.

Artists, crafters and photographers

Easels, canvases, frames, finished work, backdrops and lighting stands all store well. For painting, crafting or shoots, a shared artist studio or hired space works best.

If you’re not sure whether something you’d like to do counts as storage, just ask us before you do it. Call 0800 2545585 or email hello@wigwamstorage.co.uk, or get a price online for a home for your kit.
