Proof of identity is a document that shows you are who you say you are, usually an official document with your photograph, such as a passport or driving licence. It’s different from proof of address, which shows where you live.
At Wigwam
When you book, we ask for two forms of ID: a photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence, and a copy of a recent utility bill. If you book online, a secure identity check called Stripe Identity matches your photo ID to you with a quick selfie. It takes a moment, and it makes it much harder for anyone to rent a unit in your name, which helps keep everyone’s belongings safe from fraud.
A helper can sit with you while you book, but the selfie has to be you, because it’s matched to your photo ID. If you don’t have your ID to hand, or the online check doesn’t go through, choose “Reserve a Unit” instead, and a member of our team will contact you during office hours and take it from there.
At the site
We may ask anyone at the site to show ID, so it’s worth carrying yours, and asking anyone you send to carry theirs. If a family member or removals crew is collecting for you, a quick reminder to bring photo ID saves any delay. You can give others access to your unit yourself; see authorised user.
If you’re booking for a business, as an executor, or for someone else, call us first on 0800 2545585 and we’ll tell you what we’ll need.
