Completion is the day a property sale or purchase in England finishes: the buyer’s solicitor or conveyancer transfers the remaining money to the seller’s, and the buyer takes ownership of the property. The completion date is agreed at exchange of contracts.
GOV.UK’s home-buying guide says completion is “often around 2-4 weeks” after exchange, “though they can occur simultaneously”, and that “The keys are often handed over around lunchtime“. If the money reaches the seller late, “which is more common in long chains”, you “may not get access to your new home when expected”.
If your dates leave you out of one home before you can get into the next, that’s a completion gap, and a storage unit is a simple way to bridge it.
At Wigwam
We keep it straightforward:
- Book ahead. You can reserve a unit online or by phone, and the £10 reservation is taken off your first payment when you move in.
- Pay as you go. New customers don’t pay a deposit: you pay your first four weeks in advance, then every four weeks. The minimum stay is two weeks.
- Unload on your timetable. Access is normally 6am to 10pm, seven days a week, so a van can unload the evening before a late handover. Cheltenham’s hours differ slightly, so check your site’s page.
- Keep it flexible. If completion slips, your storage simply carries on until you give notice. If you’ve already given notice, call us before your end date and we’ll talk through a later date, confirmed by email.
When your keys are in hand, email your end date to hello@wigwamstorage.co.uk. Notice is normally 14 days, and we refund any unused days once the empty unit has been checked.
