Luton van load

A Luton van load is the amount that fits in a Luton van: a van with a tall, square box body that extends over the cab, often with a tail-lift at the back. It’s the van many people hire, or removal firms send, for moving a whole flat or a small house, and “a Luton load” is a common rough measure of how much someone is moving.

At Wigwam

As a rough guide, Enterprise’s van size guide says a Luton van will take the contents of a two or three-bed flat or house, with a load space of up to 19 cubic metres. That’s about the load our size guides put in a 100 sq ft unit: a flat, or a modestly furnished home with two or three bedrooms. Every home is different, so treat both as a starting point.

When you arrive, there’s free parking while you unload and free trolleys at every site. At Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster, drive-up units and containers let you park right by the door.

Before you hire one

Check what your licence lets you drive: GOV.UK explains that a category B licence covers vehicles up to 3,500kg maximum authorised mass if you passed your test on or after 1 January 1997. Ask the hire company for the van’s weight before you book.
