A claim is a formal request to an insurer, or to whoever is legally responsible, to pay for loss or damage, backed by evidence of what happened and what the loss is worth. For goods in storage, who you claim from depends on whose cover protects them.
At Wigwam
We’re sorry if you’re reading this because something has been damaged. We’ll help you through it.
If you have our contents protection, the claim goes through us. Take photos before you move anything, call us on 0800 2545585, then email hello@wigwamstorage.co.uk asking us to make a claim. Your written request is what starts it, so it’s worth sending the same day. We notify our insurer promptly, and we, the insurer or its loss adjuster may ask you for photos, receipts and other details.
Settlement is new for old, with a £50 excess. What the insurer pays for your belongings comes to you, less anything outstanding on your storage account. Claiming on our cover won’t affect the no-claims record on your home insurance. The summary of insurance you received when you took the cover has the full details, and we’re happy to talk you through it.
If you use your own home or business insurance instead, take the same first steps and claim with your insurer directly. Let us know too, as they may want details of the incident from us.
What helps any claim
Keep the damaged items until you’ve checked with us or your insurer. If anything was stolen, report it to the police and keep the crime reference number. Receipts, bank statements and photos taken when you packed all help show what you had and what it was worth, and an inventory with rough values makes it much quicker.
The payout is based on the declared value you gave, so it’s reduced in proportion if that was lower than the true cost of replacing everything. Keeping it up to date protects you.
