Long-term storage is keeping belongings in storage for many months or years, for example while working abroad, after downsizing, or while an estate is settled. Over that length of time, the total cost, price changes, insurance and the condition of what’s stored matter more than the start date.
At Wigwam
A long-term storage stay runs on the same rolling agreement as a short one. There’s no fixed term to sign up to: your storage simply carries on, paid every four weeks, until you give notice, which is normally 14 days.
- Because we bill every four weeks, a year is 13 payments. On our October 2026 price lists, a 50 sq ft unit at the middle price came to £1,729 for the year, before any offer and before contents cover. Prices vary by site and change often, so your quote shows today’s figure.
- We often run seasonal promotions and discounts for longer stays, so if you’re planning a long stay or would like to pay ahead, ask us before you book.
- If your price ever changes, we’ll tell you in writing first, and the new price only starts from a payment date at least 28 days later. You can leave without charge before it applies.
- Your belongings need contents cover for the whole stay, ours or your own, so review the value now and then as it changes.
Planning a long stay
Pack for the months ahead: clean and dry everything first, lift things off the floor, leave space for air, and use breathable covers rather than sealed plastic. Look in now and then, between 6am and 10pm, seven days a week. If you’ll be away, you can share access through smart entry with someone you trust, so they can check on things for you.
Keep your email and payment card up to date, because we email each invoice 5 to 7 days before it’s due, and a saved card or Direct Debit is charged automatically. If anything goes wrong with a payment, we’ll contact you promptly.
