Fulfilment is the work between a customer placing an order and receiving it: picking the item from stock, packing and labelling it, and handing it to a courier or the post office, often with returns handled too. Sellers either do it themselves or pay a fulfilment company to hold their stock and do the work for them.

It sits alongside stock storage: storage is where the goods wait, and fulfilment is what happens to each order.

At Wigwam

A Wigwam business storage unit makes a tidy, secure base for doing your own fulfilment. You can keep your stock and packaging with us and pick and pack your own orders at your unit, coming and going as often as you like during access hours, normally 6am to 10pm, seven days a week. Freestanding shelving, a folding table and your mailers and tape within reach make a simple set-up. Every unit has its own alarm, and our CCTV is monitored around the clock.

A few things to plan around:

  • Units don’t have power sockets, so bring a charged laptop or phone, and take chargers and power banks home after each visit.
  • Keep packed parcels inside your unit, so the shared corridors stay clear for everyone.
  • We can’t sign for or hand over parcels for you, so you, or someone from your business, meets the courier. If you’d like a courier to collect from the site, call us first to check it works at yours.
  • Your unit can’t be your returns, sender or business address, so use your home or a mail service on labels and listings.
  • A few products can’t be stored for safety reasons, including aerosols and other flammable stock.

Doing it yourself or using a fulfilment company

Packing your own orders keeps you close to your stock and your customers. A fulfilment company receives, stores, packs and ships for you, which can save time as orders grow, but your stock then sits in their warehouse and you pay for their work as well as the space. The unit is a store you work from rather than a shop or an office, so if your business is heading towards staff or customers calling in, call us on 0800 2545585 and we’ll talk through what fits.
