What are storage unit sizes in square metres?

A 25 sq ft storage unit is about 2.3 square metres of floor space, a 50 sq ft unit about 4.6 square metres and a 100 sq ft unit about 9.3 square metres. We list our units in square feet, so the table below gives the square-metre figure for each common size.

Figures are rounded to one decimal place. To convert any size yourself, multiply the square feet by 0.0929. Going the other way, one square metre is just under 10.8 square feet.

What the numbers mean in practice

The figure is floor area, and your things can go upwards too. Stacking boxes and taking furniture apart can let you fit more than the floor space suggests.

As a rough guide from our own size guide:

  • 25 sq ft (about 2.3 m²) suits a spare room’s worth, or a few pieces of furniture and some boxes.
  • 50 sq ft (about 4.6 m²) suits the contents of a one-bedroom flat or studio.
  • 75 sq ft (about 7.0 m²) suits a two-bedroom flat.
  • 100 sq ft (about 9.3 m²) suits a two- or three-bedroom house.
  • 150 sq ft (about 13.9 m²) suits a four-bedroom house.

Our unit sizes are approximate, and the sizes on offer vary from site to site. Not every size appears in our online quote, either. If you need a particular floor area, for example to fit a piece of furniture you’ve measured in metres, call us before you book and we’ll find the right unit for you.
