Archive box

An archive box is a strong cardboard box with a lid, sized to hold files, folders and paperwork, with hand holes for carrying and a space on the end for labelling. The lid keeps dust out and lets you open and close the box without tape, so files can be checked and returned easily.

At Wigwam

Archive boxes suit records you’ll keep in a unit for document storage: old accounts, client files, payroll and household papers. Our online Box Shop sells strong double-walled boxes, and its Medium box is the size suggested for paperwork. For files you’ll open often, lidded archive boxes are easier.

Setting up an archive

  • Number every box and write the contents and a destroy-by date on the end that faces out.
  • Keep the index of what’s in each box back at the office or at home, not in the unit.
  • Stand boxes on freestanding shelving, off the floor, rather than in tall stacks you’d need to dismantle.
  • Pack everything dry, and don’t overfill boxes so the lids still sit flat.

Every unit has its own alarm, and you can fetch a file whenever you need it, normally from 6am to 10pm, seven days a week.
