Can I work on my car or bike inside a storage unit?

You’re welcome to keep a bicycle or a drained motorbike in your unit, along with its tools, covers and clean spare parts, and to call in and check on it whenever the site is open. Repairs, servicing and charging need to happen at home or in a garage, because a unit is used for storage only, for everyone’s safety.

What your unit is great for

A pedal bike can go in an ordinary unit alongside your other things. A motorcycle can be stored once all the fuel and oil have been drained and the battery removed; give us a call before you book and we’ll talk it through. Clean, dry parts, tools, helmets, covers and stands are ordinary stored goods too.

You can come and look it over during access hours, 6am to 10pm, seven days a week (times can vary slightly by site). Thinking of storing a car? Call us first, and we’ll tell you what we can offer near you.

Why the work needs to happen elsewhere

Units sit side by side with other people’s belongings on the other side of the wall. Fuel, oil, fumes and charging batteries are the things that could turn one person’s project into everyone’s loss, so they stay out of the units. That means:

  • no repairs, servicing or restoration work in the unit;
  • no petrol, oil, brake fluid, coolant, solvents or spray cans such as chain lube or tyre inflator, and no fuel cans, even empty ones;
  • no charging. Our units don’t have power sockets, so take batteries and maintainers home to charge.

If your project needs a workspace, a garage or a workshop you’ve arranged elsewhere is the right place, and your unit can keep the bike and parts safe in between. E-bikes and e-scooters have their own battery limits, which our e-bike and battery guide explains.
