Day to day, only you and the people you choose can get into your unit. Our staff don’t open units for everyday reasons, and we never let someone in just because they ask, even a close relative.
You hold the key
Each unit has its own lock and its own alarm, so you’re the only one with access to your belongings. For most units, your phone is your key through smart entry, and your alarm sets and unsets as you use it. At Chipping Norton, you use your own padlock and a personal PIN. If an alarm goes off while you’re not on site, our security team investigates.
You decide who else can get in. Through smart entry you can share access with a family member, a friend or a colleague, for a set time or with no end date.
The rare times we may need to go in
There are a few situations where your agreement allows us, or contractors working for us, to enter a unit. Most are there to keep people and belongings safe, and they’re the same for every customer:
- Planned inspections or repairs to the unit or the building. We give you at least 7 days’ notice.
- An emergency, such as a leak or anything that could cause injury or damage. We can’t always warn you first, so we tell you as soon as we can afterwards.
- If we’re required to by law, the police, the fire service or a court order.
- If we believe something is stored that isn’t allowed, such as flammable or dangerous goods.
- If we need to move your belongings to another unit, which will be no smaller and at the same price. We give you 14 days’ notice unless an incident means the area has to be closed sooner.
- While a payment is outstanding, when we can add our own lock to the unit and, if needed, enter it. We contact you promptly about any missed payment, and a quick call to us is the best way to put things right.
Where there’s no other way in, we may need to remove a lock to enter. You can read the full detail in our terms and conditions.
